A review of theoretical salt weathering studies for stone heritage

چکیده

Abstract Salt weathering can cause substantial deterioration of natural rocks, building stones, masonry materials, monuments, and engineering structures. Nearly two centuries salt studies, both theoretically empirically, have manifested its power as well complexity. This paper attempts to unite the kinds literature assess various theories in light combined information. The theoretical approaches concerning most cited mechanisms such crystallization, hydration thermal expansion crystalline salts are thoroughly reviewed. It is understood that there no universally acceptable hard sound information on this topic yet. More precise should be developed elucidate complications interpret results empirical studies.

Weathering of Stone Mountain Granite

The weathering of Stone Mountain Granite (adamellitc) forms kaolinite, endcllite, allophane and gibbsite of which kaolinite is the most stable. Bulk density ranges from 2.65 in fresh rock to a minimum of 1.48 in saprolite. It is a good index of weathering. Abrasion pH ranges from 5.0 in saprolite to 9.3 in fresh rock, and is direct]y related to bulk density and the amount of clay mineral. Among...

Localized Weathering: Implications for Theoretical and Applied Studies

In situ quantification of localizedweathering processes on basalt flows inNewMexico andHawaii demonstrates that small-area factors can be more important than other more readily observable factors. Further, it demonstrates that the factorial concept of the Pope Boundary-Layer weathering model is partially solvable, that organicweathering can accentuate glassweathering (with implications for clim...

Comparison between Salt crystallization weathering test and natural weathering in Mesozoic’s anisotropic rocks, a case study: Arakʾs Calcareous slates, Iran

Salt crystallization can severely damage anisotropic foliated rocks, therefore it is necessary to have an understanding of crystallization process. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of salt crystallization on Arakʾs calcareous slates, as anisotropic rocks of Mesozoic. To compare salt crystallization weathering (EN 12370 norm was used up to 30 cycles) with natural weather...

A Theoretical Review of Disaster’s Social Terminology

Background and Aim: Using common terms and synonyms, such as concepts related to natural crisis managements, is one of the major challenges in interdisciplinary topics; which are apparently similar but have different meanings and practical implications. “Natural disaster” is one of these terms. The main purpose of this study is to describe the common and professional term in science and creatin...
